| An essential feature of
good requirement management is change control. A prerequisite for
controlling changes is to know the change impacts between requirements,
and in extension between requirements and other objects of the product
life cycle such as functions, product components, documents and others.
In order to know the change impacts, the relations between all these
objects and their respective versions must be traceable. Without traceability
there is no change control. The more complex a product or project is, the better requirements should be traced. Factors determining the complexity can be the amount of requirements to be managed, the product life cycle duration, security aspects, the size and/or distribution of the project team or a combination of these factors. Finally, laws and regulations on product liability require the complete documentation of the requirements as well as of the way of their fulfillment. |
